Fire Edits

Just a few edits i did during my photography lesson in college today. They aren't too complicated to replicate and a basic outline as to how i did it is below.

I created this by changing the colour balance to highlight red and magenta in the image. Then i adjusted the colour selection tool to create the white effect in the centre of the wisps.

This is a more basic edit, i simply changed the contrast and the levels so that the blacks were darker and the orange and yellow colours were more vibrant.

Fire Photography

Okay, so my dad had this old sofa and two chairs, they were beyond repair and nobody would want them so we decided to burn them along with the boxes that the new sofas came in. I figured it would be a great opportunity to get some pictures of the fire and the light it produces for my Personal Project (which if you haven't guessed by my other posts is based upon Light)

These were taken with a blowtorch by waving it in front of the lens with a four second shutter speed. These are a little blurrier than i had anticipated, however i was happy.

These were taken with a higher shutter speed (1/100 - 1/4000 on some images) I think these images turned out very well, the vibrance of the colours and the detail the camera managed to capture looks great

These images were much harder to create as they required correct timing, and a little finesse with a very long stick (the fire was extremely hot, I was barely able to stand as close as I did) But to summarise, I poked it and threw stones at it so that the embers flew up into the air, then snapped a picture with a four second shutter speed, which provided these awesome fire trails.

Light Drawing

These are my experiments with Light Drawing. To create these I used a 4 second shutter speed and a standard household torch (with dying batteries i might add) and a dark room with some space for movement (In this case my bedroom with my bed against the wall.)

Mystical Forest

A quick photoshop experiment i did as a challenge, I used secondary source images (purely for ease of access) So all the items featured in this image belong to their respective owners/creators ect.

I think it turned out pretty nice, it's a first attempt at trying something like this for me and i think it's at a fairly high standard.

Light Photography

I took most of these on Bon Fire Night
aside from the sparkler art images.

I lowered the shutter speed to 3 seconds for the sparkler images so that my subject(s) had time to move around to create the light drawings
The images that i'm in were taken by my girlfriend using the same settings. I didn't own a tripod at the time when i took these images so they may not have turned out as well as i had hoped, however I do now own a tripod so the image quality should increase.

I created these effects by getting the subject to hold a sparkler and spin around. It created this nice vortex effect although the subject was blurred out in the one image, so i got a second person to circle the subject with a sparkler to create the image on the left.

I took this using a 1/20 second shutter speed and lucky timing. It took several tries but it produced a nice red and green smoke effect as the fireworks took off.

This is an image i used to test the shutter speed, thus why the "drawing" is fairly bland instead of something more intricate. I kept this image however because it came out looking pretty nice.

These images were also tester  images but not to test the shutter speed, i used these to test the suitability of  the sparklers as a light source for this shoot, the images turned out decent so i decided to use them for my investigation in college.
